Pressing On to Know the Lord

Today I’d like to share something with you from Hosea 6:3:

Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD; His going out is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”

This verse talks about the importance of knowing the Lord. We need to know Him, not just know about Him. Hearing from other people about the Lord is not enough; we need to have a personal relationship with Him.

That wouldn’t just happen, though. The verse says that we need to press on to know Him. There has to be a deliberate effort on our part to know Him. This requires us to have the thirst to know Him more.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
(Psalms 63:1)

With thirst, spend time in His Word. With thirst, spend time in prayer and worship. That’s how you know Him more. As the verse in Hosea says:

His going out is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.

It’s definitely well worth the effort to press on to know Him. This is what apostle Paul said:

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
(Philippians 3:8)

So let’s press on to know Him!
